It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform pet owners in Chestnut Hill, Mt. Airy, Wyndmoor, etc., that our favorite poet and resident belly rubber, “Uncle” Noah Hudson, will be singing his swan song with Queenie’s Pets come Jan. 5, 2011.
Noah, 27, of West Mt. Airy, has been a beloved caregiver with us since the coldest, most rainy day in February, 2008. His absolute dedication and love for animals has come through for so many of you over the last three years. We’ve been thrilled to have him as part of our team, and I know so many of you feel that he has become part of your family.
Noah is a true treasure to us all and to this community. The good news is that Noah isn’t leaving us just to leave. He has great things in store! As a member in the jazz band The Whiskeyhickon Boys, Noah and his bandmates are buying a van and will be heading off to play shows all across the country beginning in Miami and going to many other cities such as Nashville, New Orleans, Denver and several locations in California.
Noah reports that “Once we get to California ... we’ll figure out the rest.” He plans to travel as much as possible. (“We’re definitely making a stop at the Grand Canyon. I don’t know if we’ll get to play there, but we’re stopping.”) He has no idea when his great pursuit of becoming a musician will end. Currently, Noah’s band plays every Tuesday night at 9 p.m. at the Pickering Creek Inn in Phoenixville.
Queenie’s is excited to report that although Noah’s shoes are big to fill, we are proud to welcome three new additions to our team: Kristin, Kristen (yep, two different people) and Rachel. Noah, Will, Michelle, Dave and I will all be diligently training them in your respective households over the next few weeks, before Noah actually departs. Your pets will be getting just as many kisses, ear scratches, tummy rubs and great exercise as they always have!
Noah will be greatly missed by all of us — human, canine and feline alike — but we wish him well (and we told him that when he’s “over” the musician thing, we’ll still be here looking out the window for him. He insisted it wouldn’t be right to part without just one more poem:
What I will miss are their furry faces
Smelling around strange and interesting places.
Walking in the woods always brought me joy,
Especially when they found a slimy toy,
A game of fetch or a sneaky pounce.
I loved them all by the pound or the ounce
in both light and dark with a purr and a bark.
“I’ll miss you all” is my last remark.
