Amy B. Haines, volunteer

Amy B. Haines, 61, of Fort Washington, a longtime community volunteer, died of cancer Dec. 21 at Keystone Hospice in Wyndmoor.

Mrs. Haines had been director of volunteer services for 15 years at Springfield Residence and Chestnut Hill Rehabilitation Hospital. Most recently, she worked in the accounting department for Congregation Adath Jeshrun in Elkins Park.

She served on the board of the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment and had recently been elected to the board of the Bird-in-Hand consignment shop, where she had been an active volunteer.

Her volunteer work also extended to Chestnut Hill Academy and Springside School as an active parent. At CHA she was involved with the Clothes Closet consignment shop as a bookkeeper and volunteer, and also as a teaching assistant in the lower school. At Springside she was a member of the board of trustees and served as the head of the Alumni Association.

She had worked in Chestnut Hill at The Baggage Room, Serendipity and Mes Enfants Botique.

Mrs. Haines was born in Philadelphia and raised in West Mt. Airy. She was a graduate of Springside School and Garland Junior College, now known as Simmons College.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, William H Haines IV; a daughter, Nancy; a son, Andrew; her father, Jerome Blum; a brother, Edward Blum, and one grandchild.

A memorial service was held Dec. 27 at the Joseph Levine Memorial Chapel.

Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. – WF

David Braveman, lawyer

David Braveman, 72, a lawyer who specialized in trusts and estates, died Jan. 5 at his home in Chestnut Hill.

Mr. Braveman had focused recently on health care litigation in his work with the law firm of Pepper Hamilton.

Raised in Corning, N.Y., he was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law School.

He had served in the Marine Corps for three years.

He was an avid gardener, hiker and camper and had been an active member of the Friends of Pastorius Park.

He is survived by a son, William Braveman; a sister, Devon Darrow, and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting, 100 E. Mermaid Lane in Chestnut Hill.
