Suzanne M. “Suzy” Urban, 62, a surgical nurse, died of leiomyosarcoma cancer June 3 at her home in Chestnut Hill.

Mrs. Urban had worked as a surgical nurse at Chestnut Hill, Abington and Bryn Mawr hospitals for 35 years.

Born Suzanne Marano in Chestnut Hill, the eldest of seven children of Luke and Yolanda Marano, Mrs. Urban attended what is now Norwood-Fontbonne Academy and graduated from Ravenhill Academy in East Falls. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing, specializing in surgery, from Catholic University, where she met her husband of 42 years, William J. Urban.

An avid runner for many years, she participated in the Marine Corps Marathon and was an annual participant in the Philadelphia Distance and Broad Street runs. She could often be found on Kelly Drive or in Valley Green during her Sunday runs.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Urban is survived by sons Christopher and Luke; a daughter, Alexandra; sisters Lucy Sandifer, Lisa, Stephanie Stabert and Mia; brothers Luke Jr. and Mark, and seven grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., in Chestnut Hill. Relatives and friends may call at the church after 8:30 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
