Richard Donald Genga, 65, of Mt. Airy, proprietor of Rich Genga’s Fine Framing shop in Chestnut Hill, died June 8 of gall bladder cancer at the hospice unit of Abington Hospital in Warminster.

In addition to his work as a master framer, Mr. Genga also was a professional photographer and a trained singer who performed frequently in operatic and religious venues with his wife, Pamela, who died in 2009.

Mr. Genga’s passion for photography led to a commission from the Free Library of Philadelphia to chronicle the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. In 1988 he was invited to show many of his works inspired by his love of nature at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill.

A Philadelphia native, he was a graduate of Ridley Park High School. He served in the Seventh Special Forces Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he attended Combs College of Music, where he met his future wife.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 22 Chestnut Hill Ave. in Chestnut Hill. Another service for family and friends in the Florida area will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to charities supporting children’s cancer research or a charity of the donor’s choice. – WF
