Pauline H. Brodhead, 98, formerly of Chestnut Hill, a professional musician, died June 15 at her home in Cathedral Village, Andorra.

In her career as a musician, Mrs. Brodhead had served as an organist at several churches in the Philadelphia area. She also had performed for 25 years as a member of the Piano Ensemble of the Matinee Musical Club.

She had studied piano and organ at the Sternberg Conservatory in Philadelphia both before and after her graduation from Philadelphia High School for Girls and performed on local radio. Based on her accomplishments as a pianist and an original organ composition, she was awarded a scholarship to study organ and piano with Bernard Mausert, a noted organist and choirmaster.

She served on the board of directors of the Matinee Musical Club and wrote articles for the National Federation of Music Clubs magazine.

Mrs. Brodhead and her husband, the late George M. Brodhead, had lived for many years in Chestnut Hill.

Born in Reading, Mrs. Brodhead was the oldest daughter of the Rev. Dr. Howard E. Hand, a Methodist minister who had served at several churches in Philadelphia area and later became district superintendent.

She was an active member of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, the Cape May Historical and Genealogical Society, the Old York Road Women’s Committee of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Union League and the Sedgeley.

She is survived by a daughter, Anne B. Zehner; a son, Richard C. Brodhead, and two grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, in the Presser Lounge at Cathedral Village, 600 E. Cathedral Road, in Andorra. Burial will be private.
