Doris G. Mohn, Volunteer and Homemaker. A resident of Beaumont Retirement Community for 23 years, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Mrs. Mohn was born and raised in San Francisco and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1935 with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Upon graduation, she was employed as an internal accountant in her family’s glass distributorship business. In 1942, she joined the US Navy as a WAVE, eventually achieving the rank of Lieutenant jg. She was assigned to the Eastern Sea Frontier in New York City and was responsible for charting naval convoys in the North Atlantic Ocean. While there, she met Army Sgt. Abbot C. Mohn of Pittsburgh, who she married in 1944. After the War, she and her husband moved to Philadelphia and eventually settled in Strafford Village. Mrs. Mohn was a member of St. David’s Golf Club and Martins Dam Club. She was a loyal volunteer at the Bryn Mawr Hospital Medical Library achieving Volunteer of the Year status in 2003. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and playing bridge. In recent years, Mrs. Mohn was active at Beaumont as a volunteer in the gift shop, the Liseter Garden and the Beaumont News. Mrs. Mohn is survived by her daughters Dolly O’Hara, of Santa Fe, NM, Katherine Bennett (Pete) of Devon and Marty Brady of Wyndmoor, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Mohn will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr, PA or Jenkins Arboretum, Berwyn, PA.
