Joan F. Timmins, 72, a retired family therapist, died Oct. 19 of ovarian cancer at her home in Lafayette Hill.

Ms. Timmins maintained a family therapy practice from an office in Spring House for several years until her retirement in 2011.

She also was an avid collector of toys, and during the 1980s and early 1990s operated the the Mostly Dolls and Toys store in Flourtown that dealt in collectibles and antiques. A well-known figure in the antique dolls and toys circle, she was an active member and former president of the Yesteryear Doll Club.

Born in Frackville, Ms. Timmins moved with her family to Forty Fort and later to Allentown where she graduated from Central Catholic High School. She received a bachelor's degree from Temple University and a master's degree in counseling from Chestnut Hill College.

Ms. Timmins co-authored several medical journal articles in her field with Dr. David Rubenstein, a professor of psychiatry at Temple University Medical School

She is survived by her sisters Fredericka Tate, Margaret Emmerich and Mary Zavilla; and brothers James Timmins and Gerard Tate.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown. Relatives and friends may call at the church at 9 a.m.
