Weavers Way offers grants to community groups

Posted

Once again, the Weavers Way Environment Committee invites community groups from the surrounding areas of Mt. Airy, Germantown, East Falls, West Oak Lane, and Chestnut Hill to submit proposals for grants.

Grants are awarded for environmental projects that benefit the community through education and/or gardening projects. Funds may be used for such projects as planting trees and gardens, garden equipment and enhancement of parks. Some environmentally based educational programs have also been funded.

Grant amounts range from $100 to $500, depending on the available funds and the number of qualified applicants. Much of the funding this year has come from an electronics recycling event that was held on Saturday, Jan. 13, of this year. The next electronics recycling will be in June.

Applications and guidelines are available from the Environment Committee box on the second floor of the Mt. Airy Weavers Way store and at the Chestnut Hill store. They may also be downloaded and printed from the Weavers Way website at www.weaversway.coop (scroll down the home page for the link).

Applications must be received by March 15, 2013. They may be placed in the Environment Committee mailbox in Mt. Airy or sent to the Mt. Airy Coop at 559 Carpenter Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19119, clearly marked for the Environment Committee. Anyone requesting a grant will learn within a month of the deadline if they have been selected. Grantees are then obliged to submit a report with receipts describing exactly how the money was spent.
