Dr. Valerie Arkoosh

The Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment will present another in its series “Evenings of Enrichment” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3.

Featured speaker will be Dr. Valerie Arkoosh, MD. Her topic is “The Future of Health Care Reform.”

Immediate past president of the National Physicians’ Alliance and a nationally recognized health care reform expert, Arkoosh has appeared at conferences and rallies across the United States for the past several years. She has also been a featured guest on “The Martha Stewart Show” (Hallmark), “Up with Chris Hayes” (MSNBC), and other televised programs, educating viewers and explaining The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that was signed into law in 2010.

The National Physicians Alliance where Dr. Arkoosh continues to serve on the executive committee, is a multi-specialty physicians organization founded to promote health and foster the active engagement of physicians with their communities to achieve high quality, affordable health care for all.

The current policy focus for Dr. Arkoosh is on the impact of national health reform efforts on cost, quality and access to care for the uninsured.

Arkoosh is professor of clinical anesthesiology and clinical obstetrics and gynecology, at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Her primary clinical focus is obstetric anesthesiology.

Arkoosh’s medical practice has centered on the care of the high-risk obstetric patient during labor and delivery. Arkoosh also has a strong interest in improving maternal and infant health in developing countries, and participated in three medical missions to Kenya with Operation Smile. She earned her medical degree at University of Nebraska Medical College and holds a Master’s of Public Health degree, with a concentration in Health Policy, from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Every person in this community is affected by the U.S. health care system. We would be wise to understand it. Dr. Valerie Arkoosh is a recognized expert in the field, who will tell us where health care in America is and where it may be going. Next Wednesday evening, come to listen. Come with questions. After Arkoosh speaks, there will be a time to relax with wine and cheese.

The April 3 Evening of Enrichment is open to all, and will take place at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, 8855 Germantown Ave. Suggested donation for admission is $10, which will benefit Center for Enrichment programs for older adults.
