Lights were bright and the action swift at the Teens Inc. 4th Annual March Madness/3-on-3 Tournament at LaSalle College High School in Wyndmoor on March 27.

Twenty-five teams of teens from ages 13-18 competed for the coveted 1st prize: Diamond Club Phillies tickets with premier parking. Guys and gals all battled on the court to help raise money for the Guatemala service trip this summer.

Teams named Mutombo, the All Stars, All Black and Elite, some with four on a team, dunked, pivoted and passed their way through the brackets set-up by Timmy Dwyer and Chris Lane. Competition was electrifying, with about 150 spectators, including parents, volunteers going to Guatemala and students from the 15 high schools and grade schools, cheering on the teams. Even the losers bracket had stiff competition.

Sportsmanship flourished among the teams, all of whom had an enjoyable time. During breaks in play, team players were given a free Gatorade or water. While the games were being played, hot dogs, pretzels and drinks were being sold to viewers. Parents and teens going on the Guatemala service trip assisted at registration and food sales.

As the contest progressed, some of the leading players from local high schools continued to engage and narrow down the competition. With four teams remaining the final games were played.

Bomb Squad from LaSalle High School ended up on top winning the four Phillies tickets donated by Brown Brothers Harriman, and 2nd place went to team Shea and the prize of a $50 gift certificate to P.J. Whelihan’s and Teens Inc. T-shirts. The 3rd-place team, All Black, won a $25 gift certificate to Primo Hoagies. These players and volunteers helped to raise $1,000. towards the Guatemala service trip.
