Fans of the Night Market's previous two food festivals in Mt. Airy will be pleased to learn that the event will be returning again this year, but with a new name.
On Sept. 19, from 6 to 10:30 p.m., Mt. Airy USA will present “Street Fare: Sip, Savor, Stroll,” offering food and drinks from more than 40 food trucks, carts, restaurants and bars along Germantown Avenue in Mt. Airy.
Anuj Gupta, executive director of Mt. Airy USA, said he was excited about this year's festival.
“We are looking forward to another exciting, family-friendly evening that showcases Mt. Airy's growing and vibrant restaurant scene to our broader region,” he said.
Elizabeth Moselle, director of Mt. Airy USA's Commercial Revitalization and Business Support, said the festival was good for Germantown Avenue.
“Street Fare is not only a fabulous street festival, it's a celebration of the continued revitalization of Germantown Avenue,” she said. “Our local neighbors and businesses are excited to play host for the night to the entire region.”
Among the restaurants participating in the food festival are the Trolley Car Diner, Avenida, Earth Bread + Brewery, Little Jimmy's Bakery Cafe', Jyoti Indian Bistro and Wine Thief Bistro. Some of the food trucks that will be at the festival are The Cow and the Curd, Farm Truck Philly, Street Food Philly, Ka'Chi, Sum Pig Food Truck, MacMart and Pitruco.
There will also be activities for children, such as face painting, arts and crafts, sidewalk chalk art and temporary tattoo design from Kadillac Tattoo.
Five bands also will perform for the Mt. Airy crowd, headlined by the Grammy-nominated South African soul band Sharon Katz & The Peace Train. The other four acts are Jimmy “Lil' Pookie” Seraile, Lisa Chavous and the Second Line, The GTV's and The Gin Canaries.
