A handful of residents showed up to the monthly Police Sector Area (PSA) 4 Meeting held at the Chestnut Hill Library, Germantown on Sept. 25 but police didn't. When the Local contacted the police department on Thursday morning Community Relations Officer Synell Hall said it was the result of a scheduling “mishap.”

Hall said the Free Library of Philadelphia changed the location of the meeting to Lovett Library at the last minute due to construction at the Chestnut Hill branch.

“The police department is very sorry for the inconvenience and we are working to resolve any scheduling problems so this will never happen again in the future,” Hall said.

According to Hall, the next PSA 4 meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Water Tower Recreation Center, 200 East Hartwell Lane, at 7 p.m.

Carol Scott, director of the Upper East Mt. Airy Neighborhood Association, said minor communication issues like scheduling problems can over time stifle communication and undermine community involvement.

“It's discouraging because unfortunately unless something happens on their block, people don't want to get involved,” Scott said. “Residents, who want to be involved, get frustrated when meetings are changed at the last minute.”
