Ann Stookey and her husband Joe Waz lived in Chestnut Hill for 17 years before moving to Los Angeles in 2011 to be closer to their son Jack. During that time Ann was an active member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 22 East Chestnut Hill Ave., remembered for her brilliant, creative floral arrangements, but also for her vivacious participation in the adult choir and her strong support of music. She particularly enjoyed listening to and singing with the historic Aeolian-Skinner organ that is the centerpiece of the music program at Saint Paul’s.

So it is fitting that the organ recital at Saint Paul’s on Friday Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. should be offered in memory of Ann Stookey. Following Ann’s sudden death almost a year ago, her family established The Ann Stookey Fund for Music at Saint Paul’s to ensure that renovation and maintenance of the organ would be endowed in perpetuity. A freewill offering at the recital will be directed to this fund. The community, including all those who knew and loved Ann, are warmly invited to attend the recital and the reception that follows.

Christopher Jennings, acclaimed organist at St. James’ Church, Madison Avenue, New York, will play a program featuring a transcription of “The Storm King Symphony” by Clarence Dickinson, a flamboyant piece that is ideally suited to show off the rich colors and textures of the organ at Saint Paul’s.
