SCH Academy’s Rock the Runway (RTR) celebrated its fifth birthday at the 2014 show and raised over $5,000 the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger. The fashion show—including over 40 student models, student performances, and raffle baskets with gift certificates from local Chestnut Hill stores—was organized by Leah Beight and co-heads Lauren Witonsky and Mary Siltman, the senior leaders of the school’s Fashion Club.
The show’s theme, “Fighting Hunger for All Four Seasons,” supports school-wide community service initiatives that help stock food cupboards weekly, organize can drives, supply overflowing baskets of food at the holidays, and prepare meals for the needy. The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger is a nonprofit organization that strives to help people in Philadelphia gain the food they need to live healthy lives.
Rock the Runway was created five years ago by alumna Katie DeGennaro ’10. Combining fashion and fundraising, she raised $5,000 for the American Cancer Society. Since then, Fashion Club has expanded and more organizations have benefited. The goal, however, has remained the same: create a fun evening for all ages, full of music and fashion that raises money for a special cause. Whether the focus has been at home in Philadelphia or in Africa, helping children or fighting hunger—each show has been an outstanding success.
