Chestnut Hill Film Group's ongoing series “Tuesday Nights at the Movies” continues on Oct. 28 with the 1948 film “Sorry, Wrong Number.”
After a wealthy hypochondriac becomes ill, she spends her bedridden days talking on the telephone. One night, when making a phone call, her telephone wires cross and she overhears two men plotting a murder.
Desperate to intervene and stop the murder, she makes a series of calls to the authorities and others, and in doing so begins to deduce the identity of the intended victim. With time running out and the odds stacked against her, she attempts to foil the murder and save a life.
Directed by Anatole Litvak, the film stars Barbara Stanwyck, Ed Begley and Burt Lancaster. For her role, Stanwyck went on to be nominated for Best Actress at the 1949 Academy Awards.
The movie begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Woodmere Art Museum. Doors open at 6:30. Admission is free, although donations are recommended.
