Classes for kids still available in Mt. Airy by GAIL COHEN Children — babies through teens — can still sign up this week for Moving Arts of Mt. Airy’s (MaMa) spring classes in various kinds of movement. Most classes started in late April and are still suitable for entering kids. Fees have been generally pro-rated for the six weeks that remain in most series. And one class — Capoeira — is ongoing throughout the year. Mommy & Me Yogini, Creative Movement, Nature Yoga, Gymfoolery, Pre-Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Intermediate and Advanced Fencing and Capoeira are still open. (Week-end Hip Hop and Beginning Fencing are closed for this season.) The summer program at MaMa is now set, with some classes for kids offered twice a week, and starting with three year olds: Patty Nastusi will lead a twice-weekly program. Tue. &/or Thurs., 10 classes in five weeks: July 5 – August 4. 10 classes $95 or five classes $50. She leads Creative Movement for 3 – 4 year olds; 1-1:45 p.m., Pre-Ballet for 5 – 6 year olds; 2 – 2:45 p.m. Ballet for 6 – 8 year olds; 3 – 4 p.m. and Jazz and Hip Hop for 9 – 11 year olds, from 4 – 5 p.m. Deirdre K-Vezirov leads Nature Yoga for 4 – 7 year olds on Wed. from 4 – 5 p.m., and for 8 – 12 year olds, 5:15 – 6 p.m., June 10 – July 22 (skip July 1). Martin Reuter continues his ongoing twice-weekly Capoeira classes. Students can come once or twice a week or drop in and bring friends too. Monday, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. and Friday, 6 – 8 p.m. Classes last two hours with participants ranging from about 9 years old through 30-somethings. This Afro-Brazilian form incorporates gymnastics, improvisation, dance and martial arts. Ongoing. Cara McCartney welcomes teens with experience to join adult Ballet. Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Ongoing. Adil Vezirov provides instruments, too, if needed for his Drumming class, which includes not only Mid-Eastern rhymes and instruments but also African and even some contemporary percussive instruments like the Hang from Switzerland. Ongoing. Wednesday. Optional equipment rental is $2 per class. 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. Lisa Campi’s fencing classes are so popular that there is only space for experienced students this summer. Start July 9. Fencing 9 – 13 year olds, 9:40 – 10:40 a.m., early experienced. Teen/adult at 10:45 – 11:45 a.m. for advanced and at 11:45 – 12:45 p.m. for intermediate. Beginners welcome to join in September on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings. Older teens are also welcome to join most adult classes this summer.
