Senior Center news Chestnut Hill Senior Center welcomes adult members and guests of all ages and from all neighborhoods to participate in its upcoming slate of programs. Two of the center’s programs should appeal to many in the greater Chestnut Hill community. We invite the public to join us this Friday May 6, when member Gretchen Schaff will speak about the artwork her daughter is creating in southern Virginia: hand-carved medieval style drinking horns, as well as hand-crafted jewelry using bone, leather and metals (3 examples are now on display at the Senior Center and Ms. Schaff will bring many more with her). Next Tuesday, May 10, is set aside for a showing of the 1965-filmed version of Sir Laurence Olivier’s “Othello,” staged by the National Theatre of Great Britain (167 minutes). These Tuesday programs both begin promptly at 1 p.m. and are free of charge. Refreshments will be available. In 1978 the Chestnut Hill Community Association established a Senior Services Center for the welfare, security and enjoyment of older persons in the community, and also to provide opportunity for older persons to participate in programs for the welfare of the total community. Today, the CHCA continues its support of the Chestnut Hill Senior Center. If you are looking for a place and people with whom to share activities that you already enjoy (bridge, art, short stories, aerobics and many more), the center is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you want to try out something new (Tai Chi, great books & authors, knitting or sewing and more), once again the Center is open and available to five days a week, six hours a day. Curious? Drop in or call during office hours to learn more about us. The Chestnut Hill Senior Center can be found at 7999 Crittenden St.; the telephone number is 215-248-0180. |
