A brief look at news in Chestnut Hill and surrounding neighborhoods

Mt Airy Day, sponsored by East and West Mt Airy Neighbors, will be held on Saturday May 7, from 11 am to 5 pm. The rain date is Sunday May 8.

The celebration will take place on the 6400 block of Germantown Avenue on the grounds of the historic mansions, Cliveden and Upsal (between Johnson and Cliveden streets).

The entertainment this year is impressive. Starting off the day will be Dignity House Afro-Brazilian drumming, followed by John Colgan-Davis and Dukes of Destiny, Extreem Jazz band, Aaron Mitchell, Timberline, Albino Red, Hatch Modern Dance, Philadelphia Dance Theatre, Tom Gala & Friends and Rock Garden.

The fair will feature over 150 vendors selling crafts and new and old merchandise. There will be pony rides, children’s games, a food court, car show, raffle and plant sale sponsored by Awbury Arboretum. Representatives of the Tuskegee Airmen will also be on hand.

All proceeds from Mt Airy Day support the community work done by East and West Mt Airy Neighbors.

Groups, schools or individual students who need to fulfill community service are welcome to lend a hand. Set up is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and additional help is needed throughout the day; come to the fair and get involved. If you would like to volunteer call 215-848-4163, 215-248-3521 or email MtAiryDay@aol.com
