Air Force Airman Matthew G. Trimborn has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 1999 graduate of W.B. Saul High School.
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Shawn Rogers has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Rogers is the son of Michael and Virginia Rogers of Lafayette Hill and a 2003 graduate of Plymouth-Whitemarsh Senior High School.
Roxborough's Kathleen Jost won the John C. Hartford Foundation/American Association of Colleges of Nursing Award for Outstanding Achievement on the INSPIRE project — for her outstanding performance in gerontology. Jost is a recent graduate of Drexel's ACE nursing program.
PNC Bank vice president and community consultant Shirlyn D. Swann, of Mt. Airy, recently received the Lucien E. Blackwell łGuiding Lights in Our Community Award˛ from the City of Philadelphia. Swann was recognized for exemplifying Congressman Blackwell's commitment to serving the community. Through the years, she has been involved with several local organizations, including the Central Germantown Council, Germantown Business Association, Germantown Horticultural Society, Center in the Park, Metropolitan Career Center and Northwest Victim Services. At PNC, Swann is responsible for increasing financial literacy and business partnerships with local community organizations.

Daniel Y. Gueorguiev, of Chestnut Hill, has received an M.S. in library science from Clarion University.
Chestnut Hill resident Emily F. Fischer, a dean's list student at Drew University in Madison, N.J., has recently been inducted into Beta Beta Beta, the national biology honor society. In addition, she has been honored by the American Chemical Society's Polymer Education Committee for her outstanding performance in organic chemistry. A 2001 graduate of Springside School, she was Springside's student representative on the Chestnut Hill Community Association board.
The La Salle College High School class of 2004 includes 244 seniors who will attend 78 colleges and universities across the United States and who have earned more than $14,500,000 in scholarships and grants. More than 68 percent of the graduates have earned merit-based and athletic scholarships and 91 members of the class of 2004 have been admitted to the National Honor Society.
Bishop McDevitt High School junior Charles G. Weigand is among the 50,000 highest scoring participants of over one million entrants in the 2005 National Merit Scholarship Program. As a result of his selection index score and outstanding academic potential, Weigand has been invited to participate in the College Plans Reporting Service, through which he will be referred to two colleges or universities in the U.S. in which he is especially interested. Of the 50,000 being offered this service, about 16,000 will be named National Merit Program Semifinalists and will continue in the competition for about 8,000 Merit Scholarship Awards to be offered in 2005.
Phillip Garrett, of Mt. Airy, a member of the Valley Forge Military Academy and College Regimental Band, Color Guard and Coronation Heraldic Fanfare Trumpets, will participate in the 2004 American Celebration of Music in France and Belgium from June 6 through June 12. Along with other cadets, he will arrive in France in time to take part in musical celebrations marking the 60th Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
