The East Mt. Airy community group recalled its efforts 'to make a good community better' and glimpsed its future

East Mt. Airy residents looked back on a year of "triumphs and tragedies" and weighed in on their neighborhood's future during East Mt. Airy Neighbors' (EMAN) 38th annual meeting last week.

Barry Seymour of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission presented a draft of the comprehensive plan for Mt. Airy, one of three neighborhoods selected by the William Penn Foundation for housing improvements, economic development and increased circulation.

Patriotic performance continues with The Allentown Band

Patriotic music will fill Pastorius Park when The Allentown Band returns for a pre-Independence Day Concert on Wednesday evening, June 30. The music can be heard at 7:30 p.m. at the park site, Lincoln Drive and Abington Avenue.

Friends of Cresheim take first step in extending trail

The Friends of Cresheim Trail are hosting a hike through the Cresheim Trail on Wednesday, June 30 at 6 p.m. Carl Shaifer, a member of the group, said the Friends will meet at the Trolley Car Diner at 7619 Germantown Ave. From there they will go into the Cresheim trail area, where the total hike should last approximately two hours, according to Shaifer. Shaifer encouraged everyone from the community to join the hike. All that's needed are long pants and a positive attitude.

The Rev. W. Wilson Goode Sr., former mayor of the City of Philadelphia and a Baptist minister, was the featured speaker at the 15th annual assembly of the Northwest Interfaith Movement at the Germantown Jewish Centre on June 10.
