Senior Center News

The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are here; and with them come full days of activities at the air-conditioned Chestnut Hill Senior Center.

Two afternoons a week (Wednesday and Thursday at noon) are set aside for bridge groups. Chess players move into the center’s conference room on Friday afternoons at 1:15, and this group also happily welcomes new players. Beginning conversational Spanish will continue over the next four weeks in two sessions.

Sewing crafts every Monday at 10 a.m.; knitting, crochet and other needle crafts Fridays at 1:30 p.m.; an Art Workshop Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. — all provide an opportunity to learn new skills or improve on old ones. For those who are writing poetry, prose, their memories or pieces for a community paper, the opportunity for fellowship and critiques with like-minded people comes along every Thursday morning (10 a.m.). If what you really like to do is read and discuss prize-winning short stories, the Senior Center welcomes you to join a group on Thursday afternoons (12:30 p.m.).

Aerobics are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m., two levels of Tai Chi take place Wednesdays beginning at 10 a.m., and traditional and armchair yoga is Fridays beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Call the Senior Center with questions (215-248-0180), or stop in for a visit and a cold drink. The center is located at 7999 Crittenden St., up the block from Market Square Shopping Center and the post office.
