weddingMICHAEL E. SCULLIN, of Chestnut Hill, has been appointed to the board of the Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie. Scullin, who is of counsel to the law firm of Monteverde, McAlee & Hurd and a business consultant to firms and nonprofits, advising on global expansion initiatives, is also an adjunct professor at Temple University.

nwsJO ANN SEROTA, a resident of Blue Bell, has been elected president of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Serota established Ambler Pediatrics with her husband in 1982, and she is a certified MSN, RN, CPNP, and IBCLC. Her term runs through July 2006.

greenbLON GREENBURG, of Chestnut Hill, chairman and CEO, UGI Corporation, has been appointed as a member of United Way’s board of directors. Greenburg’s three-year term begins this month.

starsORIENTEERING AT MORRIS ARBORETUM.

On Thursday, July 14, girls who are participating in A Walk in the Woods at Shelly Ridge Day Camp spent the afternoon working with members of the Delaware Valley Orienteering Association to learn about this mentally and physically challenging sport. The girls watched a video and learned the basics before getting a chance to test their knowledge on a short course at the arboretum. The camp is one of many day camps for girls being offered by Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania. The camps are open to all girls and are held at the Shelly Ridge Day Camp in Miquon. bethMCC HONORS GRADUATES.

On June 23, the Metropolitan Career Center (MCC) honored more than 300 graduates for their successful completion of various employment-based programs. Now in its 31st year, the Germantown-based career center has helped more than 11,000 displaced workers prepare for employment. Of the 300 graduates, about 95% are currently employed. The Eastern Technology Council, Greater Philadelphia’s premier organization for technology leaders and companies, and MetaCyte Business Lab recently hosted Ernie Fletcher, Governor of Kentucky, and other Kentucky VIPs from healthcare, academe and industry for a briefing on the Pennsylvania life science growth strategy using the tobacco settlement. The briefing, which took place during the BIO 2005 conference in at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, was co-hosted by Chestnut Hill resident Donna Gentile O’Donnell, managing director of Eastern Technology Council, and Steve Gailar, president and CEO of Metacyte Business Lab. Kristen Welker, a 1994 graduate of Germantown Friends, is now a news reporter for NBC 10.

Tracy Russell, of Wyndmoor, news director of KYW Newsradio 1060, has been is named to the board of directors for the American Red Cross Blood Services, Penn-Jersey Region. Russell, an Emmy award-winner, is an adjunct professor of journalism at Temple University and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.

Dr. Sarah M. Whitman has opened her psychiatric practice in Chestnut Hill. She specializes in pain medicine and pain management.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Anwar Z. Williams, a 1997 graduate of Germantown High School, made a port visit to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, during a scheduled deployment, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, homeported in Bremerton, Wash. During the visit, members of Williams’s unit took time to read, play and assist in teaching children at the Rashid Pediatric Therapy Center in Dubai. The 130 children at the school have a variety of disabilities and range in age from 3 to 15.

Northwestern Human Services raised $73,000 at its Golf Classic at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club on June 27.

Among the highest sales producers for the Lafayette Hill office of CENTURY 21 Alliance through April 30 are: Eileen Gray, 10th in closed units and 47th in gross closed commissions; Helene Lazarus, 48th in closed units; Tricia Packer, 58th in gross closed commissions; Carol Miller, 65th in gross closed commissions. The office’s top producers for May 2005 were Carol Miller, Mia Schrank, Marguerite Stokes, Tricia Packer and Marge Welsh.

Betty Lyons, of Mt. Airy, was installed as the president of the Northwest Philadelphia chapter of the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, Pennsylvania (NAMI-PA).

Marine Corps Pfc. Benjamin S. Kroker, of Lafayette Hill, a 2004 graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, recently completed the Electrical Equipment Repair Specialist Course. Kroker joined the Marine Corps in September 2004.

Mary Wallace, of Flourtown, has graduated from The Peddie School. She will attend the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State in the fall.

Certified financial planner George Toth, president of Chestnut Investment Advisory in Erdenheim, has won a trifecta of broadcast awards for his radio program, “Regarding your Money,” on identity theft.

Ellen M. Cavanaugh, of Chestnut Hill, VP, transmission strategy and business operations, Exelon Business Services Company, has been elected secretary/treasurer of the Forum of Executive Women.

Edward Jones investment representative Christopher Kemezis, of the Chestnut Hill office, recently received the firm’s Winner’s Circle Award for his outstanding sales and service efforts over the past year. Kemezis, who is Vice President-Operations of the Chestnut Hill Community Association, was one of only 883 of the firm’s more than 9,000 investment representatives to receive the award.

Attorney A. Richard Feldman, of Chestnut Hill, a named shareholder of Bazelon Less & Feldman, P.C., was recently elected a vice president of CADE - Helping Children Make Smart Decisions.

The Independent Educational Consultants Association Foundation has announced the appointment of Chestnut Hill-based educational consultant Joseph (Jody) Dobson to its board of trustees. Dobson works with families who are seeking to understand their children’s educational needs, and he helps them find the schools that are best equipped to meet those needs - locally, nationally, or internationally, day schools or boarding schools. His office is also an Independent Test Center for the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT).

Jessica Samph, of Chestnut Hill, class of 2006 at Skidmore College, earned honors for the spring semester.

Marion Rudin Frank, Ed.D., a licensed psychologist in private practice in Philadelphia and Chestnut Hill, was elected president of the Philadelphia chapter of the Gold Star Wives of America Inc., a national nonprofit military widow/widower organization that appears before Congress to fight for eligible members’ rights. Frank is also president of PPS, a mental health professional corporation, serving workplaces and private clients in the Delaware Valley.

James Perelman, 17, a student at Abington Friends School, will spend two weeks this summer as a Landmark Volunteer with Scenic Hudson, working to preserve the Hudson River.
