Senior Center News
The Chestnut Hill Senior Center is pleased to announce the addition of a special program. On Monday, Aug. 1 beginning at noon, Carmel Stone, RN, will be in attendance with a Drexel University medical student and a graduate student in music therapy. Together the three of them will present “Songs & Sweets”, with violin solos and a rousing game of “S*U*G*A*R” (played like Bingo, fun, and with a message about diabetes). There will be prizes, of course, and healthy refreshments. Members of the center and the community at large are encouraged to attend. There is no charge; and the center is air-conditioned!
The following day (Tuesday, Aug. 2) will see another gathering — this time of Pinochle players at 10 a.m. The Senior Center has one table of “regulars,” and they are looking for new and worthy opponents. For $1 you will have great company and all the Pinochle you want!
If you have some items left over from yard and garage sales, if you or someone you know is moving or “downsizing” — again, think of the Senior Center. The center will be happy to accept donations of good quality “white elephants” (but no furniture, clothing or books at this time). You may bring donations, packed in boxes if possible, to the center during operating hours (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday) or at other times by arrangement with the staff. All items donated will be sold as part of the center’s Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The Chestnut Hill Senior Center is supported by the Chestnut Hill Community Association to benefit senior adults of all ages, no matter their address. The center is located at 7999 Crittenden Street, up the block from Market Square Shopping Center and the Post Office. Stop in any time, or call 215-248-0180 for answers to your questions.
