Springfield to adopt vision plan
The Springfield Township Board of Commissioners have tentatively agreed to pursue a formal vision plan for the township, according to Commissioner Kathleen Lunn. The move, proposed by Lunn, came at the end of an hours-long workshop meeting Monday night. Though no official vote was taken, the board's approval was unanimous, she said.

An error,
an apology

Print readers of the Local may have noticed the duplication of letters on pages 4 and 5 in this week's issue (August 11, 2005). An error was made in production which resulted in the deletion of the proper sequencing of letters and the omission of three letters and the incomplete rendition of two others. The missing letters will be printed in the August 18 edition. We regret any inconvenience this causes.

OMC pastors bring commitment to ‘shared priesthood’
by JAMES STURDIVANT
The Rev. Bob Bazzoli and the Rev. Joseph P. Jocco, newly-arrived clergy at Chestnut Hill’s Our Mother of Consolation parish, have more in common than just a priestly vocation. Both are members of the religious order of Saint Francis de Sales, which has responsibility for administering the 150-year-old parish. And the philosophy of this order brings with it a certain approach to parish life.

Fascinating characters everywhere you look

How fascinating people in our town are, when one looks just beneath the surface! Just driving around, I’ve often thought of taking pictures of the people I see — keeping a kind of diary with notes I’ve taken on their personal backgrounds. It could be people I’ve briefly encountered or people I network with in some respect. Filling in their backgrounds, I probably will be asking folks some personal questions.

New chef on Hill shines ‘a light in the darkness’
by Ann Barr
Carl Grear and the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 8700 Germantown Ave., are on a mission: they want to make Chestnut Hill residents healthier. Grear, the new chef at Expressly Vegetarian Café, located in the church’s basement, likens the mission to being a “light in the darkness.” But the multi-talented Grear has been hired to do more than feed your belly something healthy; he wants to lead you to wellness.

authorNovel set in Northwest Philly an impressive debut
by JIMMY J. PACK JR.
There’s something exciting about reading a novel set in the area in which you live. The last Philly-set novel I read was Drop by Germantown native Mat Johnson. In Drop, Johnson contrasts a bleak Philly with a grass-is-always-greener-over-there view of London, England.
