Senior Center News
The “dog days of summer” continue with a vengeance here in Chestnut Hill. Luckily for our senior adults, as well as their younger friends and neighbors, this community is home to a friendly, air-conditioned activity center open every Monday through Friday.
Speaking of the dog days … Chestnut Hill Senior Center director Mary Zell and her greyhound Kaila pose with Drexel University medical students during their springtime visit to the center.
If you have always wondered whether you could do … or would like, why not come over to the Chestnut Hill Senior Center and try: aerobics, art, bridge, chess, hook and needle, needlecrafts, pinochle, short stories, tai chi, writers group, yoga, or work on “the world’s largest crossword puzzle? Ask about our fall trips (Battleship New Jersey, the Pearl S. Buck home, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and a Christmas show). Get ready for the return of “Great Books and Authors,” memoir writing, French, Spanish and Italian classes after Labor Day.
Why not make a slight detour from errands, appointments or your job and stop at the Senior Center for a snack and cold drink while browsing our craft counter? While you are here, buy a raffle ticket on our beautiful hand-made quilt “Peacocks and Posies;” if you are already a member, borrow some books and movies to entertain you on these hot summer nights. And, of course, late summer is the perfect time for members and friends of the Senior Center to bring in their attic and basement treasures (but not clothing, furniture or books at this time); the center will offer these quality “white elephants” for sale at our Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The Chestnut Hill Community Association sponsors the Senior Center for the particular benefit of senior residents in this community. Adults of all ages and from every city and nearby suburban community are always welcome to participate in our regular activities and special programs. Call 215-248-0180 with your questions; and come in to 7999 Crittenden for a visit any time.
