Crime Report • Chestnut Hill

The following crimes are from the week of Aug. 14-20, 2005:

Aug. 14. 8800 block Germantown Ave. Complainant states that an unknown person stole a Samsung Verizon cell phone from day care center.

Aug. 17. Crittenden Street and Mermaid Lane. Complainant states that offender pointed a knife (scythe) at complainant and said, “Give me your money or I’ll kill you.” Offender ran eastbound across Stenton Avenue into Wyndmoor. Black male, 6’tall, 170 lbs., dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, no facial hair, wearing yellow and black baseball cap, green shirt with white t-shirt, black pants and yellow sneakers. Occurred at 3:45 p.m.

Aug. 19. 200 block W. Evergreen Ave. Between 8 p.m. on Aug. 18 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 19, an unknown person stole a white 1989 Buick LeSabre, New Jersey tags MAX61.

Summary — Three crimes for week: one robbery, one stolen vehicle and one other theft.

Safety tip: If you have to walk alone, keep your keys positioned in your hand so that one of them can be used as a defense weapon if necessary. Walk confidently, and look at everyone who passes you right in the eye; it can be intimidating to others and help keep you from harm.
