Dr. Herb Levine, of Mt. Airy, is the new executive director of Fellowship Farm, and educational center in human relations in Pottstown. Levine was formerly the development director at Philadelphia Physicians for Social Responsibility.

 

Elisabeth J. Shakin Kunkel, M.D. of Chestnut Hill, vice chair of clinical affairs and professor of psychiatry and human behavior, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, has been accepted into a national leadership program that helps prepare women for senior administrative roles in academic health.

 

The University of Mississippi has selected Ueland Junker McCauley Nicholson (UJMN) of Philadelphia to plan the new 10,000-square-foot William Faulkner Wing to the University Museum in Oxford, Miss. UJMN will be responsible for planning both the new building addition and the new exhibits to interpret the life and work of the famous author. Mark Ueland, AIA, principal, of Chestnut Hill, was the co-chair of the Friends of the Fountain Plaza; a former vice president of CHCA (physical division); and former member of the LUPCZ committee. The firm also designed the new arts center at Chestnut Hill Academy and the new Liberty Bell Exhibit at the Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia that is scheduled to open in October. Ueland’s His partner, Joe Nicholson, is the president of the board of trustees of Woodmere Art Museum.

 

Christopher l. Hansen, M.D., FACC, of Chestnut Hill, has been named director of nuclear cardiology at the Jefferson Heart Institute of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is also professor of medicine at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.

 

Margaret "Margie" Gallagher Thompson, of Chestnut Hill, has been named chair of Cozen O'Connor trusts and estates practice.

 

Deborah Levin is the new branch manager and vice president of Sovereign Bank at 8623 Germantown Ave. She was previously at the Lafayette Hill branch of Sovereign Ban; and spent 29 years with First Union/Wachovia, specializing in branch banking.

 

Wyndmoor resident Sally Solis-Cohen, director of WHYY Advantage Productions, part of WHYY’s Adult Learning Services, has been named the 2003 National Association of Women Business Owners’ (NAWBO) Philadelphia Chapter Advocate of the Year, given for her work (in the public sector) to support and strengthen the NAWBO vision, which is to strengthen the wealth-creating capacity of its members, promote economic development, create innovative and effective changes in the business culture and build strategic alliances, coalitions and affiliations.

 

Bharat Kantharia, M.D., of Chestnut Hill, has been appointed director of electrophysiology in the division of cardiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Prior to joining Einstein, Dr. Kantharia was on staff in cardiology and electrophysiology at the MCP and Hahnemann University Hospitals, and a faculty member at Drexel University College of Medicine. His research interests include new designs and techniques for pacemaker and defibrillator lead extraction, formulas for arrhythmia detection by dual defibrillator/pacemaker, and new mapping techniques to facilitate ablative therapy for different arrhythmias.

 

Chestnut Hill College’s admissions Web site (www.chc.edu), earned “Best University Web site” honors in the 2003 Web Award Competition. Produced by the Web Marketing Association, the Web Awards recognize the individual and team achievement of Web professionals who create and maintain outstanding corporate Web sites. Chestnut Hill College redesigned its admissions site in November 2002 to serve as a one-stop information resource for prospective incoming students and their parents. The redesign was part of a massive marketing campaign that supported the College’s transition from a female-only student population to a coeducational institution. “Our Web site truly communicates the energy of Chestnut Hill College, which has led to a 225 percent increase in this year’s incoming first-year class,” said Carol Jean Vale, SSJ, president of the college. The site, which was designed by 160over90, a Philadelphia-based marketing communications agency, was judged on its design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, navigation and ease of use.

 

Army Reserve Pvt. Christine Elliott has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. Elliott, the daughter of Elaine Buzas of Flourtown, is a 2002 graduate of Springfield Township High School.
