CHYSC U-14 Intramural League Results

Tottenham striker, Reuben Hampton, stood out this past weekend in the Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club U-14 intramural league, scoring the lone goal for Tottenham in Saturday's contest in the last three minutes to knot the game with Liverpool at 1-1, and getting a hat trick plus one to lead Tottenham over Arsenal 5-1 on Sunday. Victoria Horn also scored for Tottenham. The victory and tie for Tottenham launched the club into first place in the U-14 league, just one point higher than the Bolton Wanderers who only played once over the weekend.

In Sunday's U-14 game between Liverpool and the Bolton Wanderers, Liverpool was set on scoring early. Five minutes into the game Liverpool's Isaac Roberts kicked a corner kick that curved into the goal, defying the goalie's efforts at reaching for it. Numerous goal shots and attempts to score were taken by Bolton Wanderers' potent offense led by Zandy and Nick Schreiber, Drew Adabatu and the Harris brothers, Crosby and John. However, they were denied by Liverpool fullback, Jared Kornfeld, and goalie, Joe Killian, enough times to prevent Bolton from taking the lead.

Ten minutes after the first goal, Isaac Roberts received a pass from Zack King and scored another goal. This one was kicked so hard that the goalie could not hold onto it. Liverpool's Joel Fagliano attempted to score on a number of occasions but the Bolton Wanderers' goalie, Max Cavelli, held fast.

The second half saw the Bolton scoring two hard fought goals. Liverpool's halfbacks, Nick Dekker and Mariah Burke, worked hard to stop the onslaught, as did Steve Farrington. Fullbacks Nathaniel Torres, Itamar Ben Amos, and Jared Kornfeld, often were able to maintain a solid wall, but the Bolton Wanderers broke through to score the two goals. With two hard fought ties over the weekend, Liverpool maintained third place in the league.

After coming close many times but not winning in its previous matches, Newcastle United finally put it all together for two victories, the first a defensive battle by a 1-0 score on Saturday versus previously 2nd place Arsenal, and another Sunday that went down to the wire with Manchester United. Jay Enakhimion scored Newcastle's lone goal for the win on Saturday. The victories were enough for Newcastle to move up to 4th place in the league.

For Manchester, the loss to Newcastle was its second in two weeks by a 4-3 score. The loss Sunday came after Man U. had led early, with an opening goal scored by Brendan McEwan. Newcastle won with two goals scored by Casey Brady-Gold and one each by Dylan Badawy and Jay Enakhimion. The lead see-sawed back and forth, with the two other Manchester goals scored by David Preiss on a pass from Nathaniel Rabin, and Caleb Rau near the end of the game on a breakaway after receiving an excellent ball down the wing from Collin Cothran. Two other very close shots by Parker Vanderslice-Lamas and Louis Ashodian went just wide of the net, and Louis also kicked a corner kick in front of the goal that almost resulted in another score. With assistance from defenders, Emily Shuldiner, Kelcey Johnson and Jake Segal, Newcastle goalie, Cliff Klett, came up big in stopping Manchester scoring drives again and again. Manchester's defense by Valerie Bannan, Stuart Campbell, Katie Dannenberg and Helen Spencer-Wallace was tough, but on the occasions of Newcastle's goals, the defense was just overwhelmed by well-coordinated attacks, usually initiated by Sam Ebert and Casey Brady-Gold, with help from Keenan Kline and Jay Enakhimion. Manchester goalie, Eric Herrera, made numerous stunning saves, several at point blank range, but Newcastle were able to out maneuver the Manchester defense just often enough for the victory.
