Carol R. Michiels
Carol Raymond Michiels, 79, of Cathedral Village, Roxborough, died on October 25 following a stroke. She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Raymond and Gertrude Lutz and sister of Elinor Hynes. She is a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy. She married Edward L. Michiels when he was 18 and flying B-17’s for the Army Air Corps. They were married 45 years.
Mrs. Michiels was active in the Seven Dolors parish, sang with the choir and enjoyed travel. In 1965 she started her own business, Carol Michiels’ Slipcovers which she ran for 30 years.
For the last six years Mrs. Michiels lived at Cathedral Village, calling it her “country club.”
She is survived by her children: Mary Hitchings (William), Ned (Jean Marie), Ann Breen, Jeanne Schiele, Thomas and Joseph (Mary Jane); eight grandchildren: Chris, Stacy, Matt, Joey, Parke, Pat, Will and Laura; and grandson Ethan.
A funeral Mass was held on October 29. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carol Michiels Memorial Fund, Cathedral Village, 600 E. Cathedral Road, Philadlephia, PA 19128.
Edward D. Lawler, Sr.
Edward D. Lawler, Sr., 81,of Plymouth Meeting, died on October 23.
He was born in Philadelphia to John A. and Rita (nee Wenzel). Graduate of the University of Pennsylvania at 19 as an electrical engineer, he spent the remainder of WWII in radar research and development for the Navy. He returned from Washington DC and earned a master’s in mathematics at Penn.
Married in 1955 to the late Jomay Liber, he was the father of Joann, Edward Jr., Frances Holly, Marjorie Pennacchi and Jacquelyn Shambaugh; grandfather of Chris, Steve and Katie Holly, George, Sally and Laura Pennacchi, and Emily and Natalie Shambaugh. He is also survived by his brother John. Many Saturdays were spent at the Franklin Institute Science Museum.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 4 at 11 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church where friends may call after 10 a.m. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 3 at Jacob F. Ruth Funeral Home, 8413 Germantown Avenue, Chestnut Hill.
