U-9 Boys
The Chestnut Hill Boys U-9 Travel Team notched a thrilling victory on Saturday, Oct. 1 against the Lenape Valley Killer Bees. This was the third time the teams had met since the pre-season, when the Bees beat the Blue Lightning 3-2 in the Warminster Perlini tournament in September. Last week, in their second meeting, Chestnut Hill tied the Bees 1-1 in an away game. Chestnut Hill took it to the Bees in the first half on the strong play of Conor Biddle at midfield and Sam Pardys and Barry Cross on attack. Andy Hall scored the lone goal for Chestnut Hill. Pedro Ramos, Wes Tarver and Greg Goldstein each played their best game of the season. Chestnut Hill's defense was nearly impenetrable thanks to Danny Thomas and Cole Brown, while Jack Moseley diving save of a penalty kick preserved the tie. This Saturday, Jacob Jordon shut out the Bees in goal, aided bee-killer Lucas Giannetti on defense, and by Greg Holdsman who cleared a loose ball from the goal line late in the game. This match Chestnut Hill was the more aggressive team, heading the ball back into the Bee's half time and again to maintain the attack. The goal came with literally seconds to go in the game, on a pass from Andy Hall to Sam Pardys, and Chestnut Hill finally vanquished the Bees.
U-11 Girls
Even though the U-11 Girls dropped one to Pearls Saturday 0-1, Blue
Lightning kept the pressure on, with the ball hardly leaving the Pearls half
of the field. Phoebe Ingersoll seemed always to be right where she needed to
be, picking up loose balls and sending them straight to the feet of her
advancing teammates. Allie Clarke followed up her powerful throw-ins,
running in to catch the ball on the rebound. Sarah Thomas ranged through the
defense, knocking balls downfield, and carrying them down herself when
called on. Likewise, Riley Cook was tough and fast on defense, turning the
ball to the outside for several swift carries. Emma Ebert was creative at
the top of the midfield, making herself open for feeds and setting up
dangerous opportunities for the Lightning offense. Finally, Tara Harrington,
against a very physical defense, took several strong runs with the ball, and
Kelsey Chapman, though heavily marked, took run after run down the flank,
delivering the ball to a staunchly defended goalie box.
U-13 Girls
The U-13 Girls Blue Lightning ran their record to 7-0-1 with a 3-1 win over Towamencin Typhoon. The tough opening minutes of the game were played entirely in the Lightning's defensive zone with Robyn Low in goal holding the Typhoon scoreless. The girls took over control of the game with three quick goals. Shelby Tucker scored an unassisted goal. Abbi Cook followed quickly with the second goal on a feed from Shelby. Betsy Sachs finished off the first half with a goal scored on a corner kick. The defense held for the second half to preserve the win.
