U-9 Boys’ bounce back with shutout victory

The U-9 boys' Blue Lightning showed their character this weekend, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Plymouth Knights on Saturday before rebounding Sunday for a rousing 5-0 victory against the Newtown Nitro. Tight defense and some spectacular goaltending kept Newtown in the game in the first half, limiting the Blue Lightning to a Peter Ferraro goal from the corner of the box. In the second half however, relentless pressure from the Lightning wore down the Nitro. Ben Holl and Ethan Rabinowitz launched shots from the 18 yard line that found the back of the net, while Will Randall had two assists, threading passes through traffic to goal scorers Jack Martin and Peter Ferraro.

The U-10 boys Fourth Division played two games this weekend. On Saturday they faced off against the DPR Dynamite. After a scoreless first half the Blue Lightning began to turn up the heat, keeping the pressure on the Dynamite defense. Kyle Espenshade and Hank Goldenberg dominated the mid-field and Daniel Spivack and Henry Bushnell created a number of good scoring chances. Finally, with time running out in the second half, Augie Frank launched a powerful shot on goal that rebounded to Gabriel Osorio-Soto. Osorio-Soto’s shot deflected off the DPR goalie to the waiting Johnny Hass who punched it home for the game’s only score and a 1-0 Lightning victory. CH goaltender Gabe Buchanan played well throughout with support from defensive stalwarts Will Tywman and Gilman Myran.

Sunday, the Blue Lightning returned home for a match-up against the Roxborough Indians. Roxborough scored first to go up 1-0 at the half. CH tied the game when Jacob Spivack fed the ball to his brother Daniel who knocked it home. Late in the game Nathaniel Vahedi lofted a well-placed corner kick into the center of the box where Bryce Low made a spectacular volley past the keeper to give the Blue Lightning a 2-1 advantage. With the defense and goalie repelling several Indian attacks, Low’s goal stood up to give CH an exciting 2-1 victory.

With the U-11 girls down two goals to the Warminster Charge, Riley Tarver brought the ball down the right side and passed to Theresa Shropsire who put CH on the board. Lyles Swift-Farley tied the score on a strong shot from 15 yards out. Excellent defensive play by Michaela Winch-Peterson, Taylor Bagley, Verity Walsh, and Anna Claire Siena kept Warminster scoreless in the second half to give the U-11’s a 2-2 tie.

This past weekend saw the U-14 play twice--on Saturday against Southampton LSC and on Sunday against Whitpain. In the Saturday game, the U-14’s scored three times in the second half for a 5 -2 victory. Goals were scored by Mike Caracappa (2), Scott Kaesshaefer assisted by Ben Gemberling-Johnson, Jack Kavetski with an assist from Matt Berson, and Mike Marino on a corner kick from Sam Levin. Halfback’s Nico Barbarese and Owen Smith each made solid contributions to the win.

The Sunday game saw the boys’ drop their first game of the season by a score of 2-1. The single goal was scored by Alex Blenheim on an assist from Mike Marino. Todd Domanski, Sam Levin, and Zach Maas were tireless on defense and the entire team played a very active, physical game.

The U-10 girls prevailed in two contests this weekend, besting Fox Chase 2-1 and following it up with a 3-1 victory over Pearls. In Saturday's game Fox Chase scored mid-way through the first half, but the Blue Lightning came back with a vengeance, scoring twice in the second stanza to notch the win. Resnya Hughes launched several powerful drives, Eve Maxson supplied heavy offensive pressure and Emma Ebert consistently pushed the ball forward. On Sunday, goalie Tasmin Lamb showed grace under fire, corralling shots and jump starting the offense with excellent outlet passes to her teammates. Forward Anna Singer snapped up a number of loose balls, and Libbie Maine scored a beautiful goal on a breakaway.

The U-13 boys continued their successful season with a 6-1 victory. Goals were scored by Spencer Jones (2), Cesar Wyckoff, Pierre Girin, Caleb Mactavish and Harry Getty.
