Northwest ensures Street re-election
Party trumps race in Ninth Ward

It's just after 7:00 a.m. as the line begins to form at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Mt. Airy. Members of the Northwest electorate are wading through the early morning fog, only to be greeted with an overloaded ballot that will result in long lines and confusion throughout the next 13 hours.

Most voters avoid the media throng awaiting Republican mayoral challenger Sam Katz's arrival. And despite talk of intimidation and union bullying the day before, voters encounter little resistance..

Penn Charter claims first
field hockey title

Officially, the field hockey team with the best regular-season win/loss record is still considered the Girls Inter-Ac League champion. But this year the league introduced its first post-season tournament, and after Penn Charter and Notre Dame tied for the title and then advanced to the tourney finals on November 1, you can bet that bragging rights were on the line.

Mt. Airy resident Nick Kelsh was one of 125 military and civilian photographers chosen to shoot more than 250,000 pictures of military personnel during a 24-hour period on October 22, 2002. The images were for a book, A Day in the Life of the Armed Forces.
