Thirteen of the Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club’s travel soccer teams recently visited Lancaster for the Hempfield Tournament. Chestnut Hill’s contingent was the second largest number of teams from a single club, after the host Hempfield club. The tournament featured 340 teams of girls and boys ages 9 to 18 and included many of the strongest soccer club teams from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Virginia.

Although Germantown Academy captured the Girls Inter-Ac League title outright for the fourth straight year by virtue of a 7-0 regular-season record, there were some signs this fall that the Patriots might be mere mortals, after all. Their ledger included a modest 2-1 win over an Episcopal Academy team that wound up in the lower half of the league, and a 3-1 title-clincher over an up-and-coming Penn Charter squad on October 28.

By the time the Malvern Friars traveled to Chestnut Hill Academy on November 7 for the final soccer match of the Inter-Ac season, both squads were simply squabbling over the middle ground in the league. In Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club action last weekend, the U-10 boys’ fourth division went on the road to face Whitpain. Toughened by the competition of the Hempfield Tournament, the Blue Lightning started out strong and scored early when Will Twyman’s shot found the back of the net.
