HOLIDAYS ON THE HILL
v On Black Friday, Nov. 26, at noon, Santa Claus will arrive on a fire truck, courtesy of the Philadelphia Fire Department. Santa will be available until 4 p.m. to accept your Christmas lists and pose for photos free of charge along the 8300 block.
v Circle of Trees will be on Friday, Nov. 26 from 2-5 p.m. at Christ Ascension Lutheran Church, 8300 Germantown Ave. After visiting with Santa, kids can make their own ornament to hang on the tree outside. Cookies, cocoa and cider will be served to kid-crafters and their adult companions, followed by a round of Christmas carols.
v The Chestnut Hill Holiday House Tour -- five private residences decorated by area interior designers and florists -- is on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on 150-year-old Summit Street.
v On Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1-3 p.m., two characters from The Pennsylvania Ballet's Nutcracker will visit Chestnut Hill. Kids can pose for photos with the beautiful Sugarplum Fairy and dramatic Mouse King at O'Doodles Toy Store, 8335 Germantown Ave. and Intermission, 8405 Germantown Ave.
v On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights in December, many stores along the Avenue will have extended shopping hours, there will be carolers and live brass bands on the Avenue, a free shopper's trolley, as well as promotions and receptions in many stores and restaurants.
v Girls Night Out is every Thursday night in December. The Chestnut Hill Welcome Center, at 8426 Germantown Ave., has a "Holiday Gift Pass" listing all the special offers and gifts "for the girls."
v On Sundays in December, Santa, whimsical characters and musicians will stroll the Avenue. Chestnut Hill's free shopper's trolley will in operation.
v Giving Back: Between Dec. 1 and 10, the Chestnut Hill Business Association will donate 10% of the proceeds from the sale of Chestnut Hill gift certificates to The Friends of the Wissahickon.
