Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club Friday Night League

Kings nip Celtics in overtime thriller

by TOM AMODIE

The new season in the Youth Sports Club Friday Night Basketball League began last week with a full slate of games.

The best of those games pitted the Kings versus the Celtics. This game needed an extra session to decide and it was a clutch trey by Tyler Regan in that extra frame that helped to lift the Kings over the Celtics 58-56. Regan led all scorers with 21 points.

The Kings led 9-8 after the first quarter on six points by Regan. The Celtics though outscored the Kings 18-6 in the second period as Jesse Biddle and Joe

Burke each scored seven points in the frame. Biddle and Burke finished with 20 and 15 points to guide the losers. The Kings played strong defense in the third quarter to hold the Celtics to a lone free throw while getting back into the game trailing 27-25 with a quarter remaining. In that fourth stanza Regan hit for seven points while Daniel Jones added four to force overtime. Kurt Venson and Quay Childs each had a pair of field goals in the overtime to aid in the win.

The Heat opened the season with a win as they downed the Spurs 50-45 as Carl Everett led the way. Ralph Jarvis paced the losers.

Newcomer Josh Stevens scored 15 points to lead the Suns past the Pistons 36-32 despite 18 points from Dave Maas. Mike Gibbs added a pair of treys for the Suns while Matthew Primavera buried a pair for the Pistons.

Ryan Rush and Micah Winterstein had 15 and 14 points respectively for the Lakers as they knocked off the Hawks 43-31. Mike Barsotti muscled in 16 points for the Hawks.

If the first week is any indication, the early favorite would have to be the Sixers as they put eight players in the scoring column in routing the Trailblazers 67-42. Ali Add had 20 and Noz Wynn 18 to lead the way. Ryan Duffy and Zach Porges had 11 points each for the Trailblazers.
