Quick scores 28 as the Knicks
edge the Blazers

After week one was cancelled due to snow, the Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Cub Friday night basketball league got underway last Friday night with five games. In the best of those games Dan Quick poured in 28 pints as the Knicks rallied to edge the Blazers 48-47. It was all Blazers in the first half as they led 11- 8 after one as Michael Winterstein buried a three and Ryan Duffy added a pair of field goals. In the second quarter, Casey Brecker drained three treys as the Blazers went up 30-17 at the half. Quick took over in the third period and picked up 10 points to cut the Knick deficit to 37-33 with just eight minutes left. Duffy scored six of the Blazers’ seven third-quarter points. In the final frame, Quick scored nine more points while the Blazers missed five free throws, which ultimately led to their one-point defeat. Winterstein was high for the Blazers with 16. Duffy followed him with 13.

Mark Justice deposited 23 points as the Kings came back from a slight deficit to down the Lakers 39-33.The first half ended at 17 as Mike Barsotti picked up eight points for the Lakers and Ben Lotka, seven. The Kings led after the third period, but Marcellus Willoughby gave the Lakers an early fourth quarter cushion before the Kings rallied behind Justice, who scored 10 of his points in the final frame. Lotka paced the Lakers with 14. Barsotti followed him with 10.

David Stern and Nico Barbese both scored in double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively, as the Wizards topped the Hawks 43-36.

Six different players scored for the Wizards in the first stanza, including a three from Jonathan Cramer-Cohen as they led 14-10 after one. Stern scored six of his points in the second period as the Wizards upped their advantage to 23-14 at the break. The Hawks held the Wizards to four points in the third period to get within 27-21 with a quarter left. Barbarese and Luke Giordano exchanged a pair of threes each, but Stern’s six points put the finishing touches on the Wizard win.

Giordano led the Hawks with 12 points while Matt Howard had 10.

After blowing an early lead versus the Pistons, the Spurs came on strong in the second half to win 33-25.The spurs led 10-3 after one as Joseph Burke notched four points. Zach Mass scored all seven of his points in the second period while Chris Covington added four as the Pistons trailed by a point 17-16 at the half. The Spurs grabbed the lead on a three ball by Burke at the end of the half.

A low-scoring second half saw the Spurs outscore the Pistons 13-9 to win going away. Isaac Steinberg had nine points to lead the Spurs while Covington had nine for the Pistons.

Brian Wilson had 12 points as the Celtics bested the Sixers 32-15.
