RUNAWAY ROLLS. A runaway Rolls Royce crashed into the back of the Klas family home at Benezet Street and Germantown Avenue on Dec. 18. The antique Rolls reportedly came out of a garage behind the building at the southeast corner of Germantown and Willow Grove, went down a steep bank and over a stone retaining wall, then crossed the Klas' backyard before coming to rest against the northeast corner of the house. Police to question
notorious silver thief

With an eye on unsolved Chestnut Hill burglaries,
local investigators plan to
interview Blane Nordahl

by MICHAEL J. MISHAK

Philadelphia police investigators are patiently waiting their turn for some face time with Blane Nordahl, the notorious cat burglar with a taste for sterling silver who was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison last week for the burglaries of two New York estates.

Nordahl, 42, remains a suspect in several burglaries in Chestnut Hill, among other Northwest Philadelphia communities, police said on Monday. He was arrested earlier this year in a sting operation after authorities received information concerning his whereabouts.

Accompanied by U.S. marshals and investigators from Bergen County, N.J., Philadelphia police arrested Nordahl on Jan. 15. Armed with a New York warrant, the law enforcement team collared Nordahl, who had been living in Bellmawr, N.J., in the 3500 block of West Crown Avenue in Northeast...

Remember the Titans? Well, you don't remember these Titans, because they'd never played a single game before last month. They're the girls basketball team at the imposing new high school in Warrington, Central Bucks South, and they gave visiting Mount St. Joseph Academy quite a run last Thursday before the Magic prevailed, 55-49.

The Magic rode to victory on 23 points by Emily Johnson (six rebounds, four steals) and eight apiece by Laura Johnson and Lauren Kummer (nine rebounds), climbing to a season mark of 7-1. The CB South Titans leveled off at 4-4, despite ten points from Stef Graff and nine from Liz Derr, both former Central Bucks East players.

The Mounties were also on the road earlier in the week, delivering a 54-38 setback to Villa Joseph Marie on Dec. 20. Assuming a modest 13-11 edge during the first quarter, the Magic pulled away to a 25-18 halftime count, then added ten more points to their lead in the third quarter. Emily Johnson and Kummer...

Hiller walks, bikes, climbs
the world for charity

By LAUREN FRITSKY

She's climbed a mountain (not Mt. Airy) and walked and biked more miles in seven years than some people cover in a lifetime. And she did it all at a time in life when most people slow down considerably.

At the age of 63, Katherine "Kitsie" Converse not only has a new lease on her own life, but has helped improve the quality of life for countless others. Last summer, the long-time Chestnut Hill resident raised $12,500 for Paul Newman's Hole-in-the-Wall camps for kids with critical illnesses by walking 500 miles across Spain. Hole in the Wall Camps are the world's largest network of camps for children with serious diseases. They are a not-for-profit organization founded by actor Paul Newman in 1988. Over 70,000 children from 34 states and 27 countries have attended the camps free of charge.

Her journey began in St Jean Pied de Port in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in France and ended in Santiago, Spain. The path she walked is called the Santiago de Compostela, the second most...
