Mark your calendars for Chestnut Hill’s First Friday Celebration on Nov. 5. Participating shops will stay open until 8 pm with various store specials, refreshments, musical artists, and events.
O’Doodles Toy Store will be hosting a “family game night” from 6 to 8 p.m.. Learn to play the hot new game of 2010: Spot It! Bring the kids and get ready to enjoy some real “unplugged” fun and refreshments, all for just $10 per family.
Across the street at The Little Treehouse Play Cafe, a special “kids dinner” will be on the menu. For just $5, kids can order pizza, mac & cheese or a turkey sandwich with sides and a drink.
Be sure to hit one of many happy hour specials at Hill restaurants. Hokka Hokka will offer specials between 5 p.m. 6:30 p.m. Tavern on the Hill will feature half-price beers on tap, $4 glass of house wines and a complimentary bar treat from 5 to 7 p.m.. They will also have live music playing during dinner. Roller’s Expresso will open its pop-up wine & beer bar, Café Lyle, for the evening. the bar features “good wines, beers, snacks & vibes.” The Early Bird Special at Chestnut Grill will be extended till 8 p.m. so customers have ample time to visit the shops along the Avenue.
Art & music will take center stage for the evening with two special events. The Nichols Berg Gallery at 8611 Germantown Ave. (in the rear, facing the lot off of Evergreen Avenue) is presenting Harry Hasheian, A Retrospective with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Hasheian is a Chestnut Hill artist whose works include original oil and acrylic paintings, prints, drawings, illustrations and sculpture. His work spans a long and distinguished career and, while playful, irreverent and sometimes absurd, addresses many of the social issues of our time in some very compelling ways.
A few blocks down the Avenue, noted jazz and blues musician Mose Alison will be performing live at Roller’s Restaurant at the Flying Fish .Accompanied by Jim Dragoni on guitar and Fred Weiss on bass, Allison will play two shows.
