Seen here is “Motherland,” oil on canvas, 60″ x 48,” and is currently in Israel with Anya’s mother. It is a portrait of Anya’s great-grandmother Nadya, who was from northern Russia.
New work by acclaimed Anya Smolnikova opened alongside Quintessence Theatre Group’s production of “The Diary of a Madman” Feb. 13 and will remain through March 10 at the Sedgwick Theater, 7137 Germantown Ave. The opening reception will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 6 to 8 p.m.
A Soviet by birth, Anya has lived in the US since 1999. Currently in Boston, she has traveled extensively.
