Enrich – Connect – Renew. This is the mission of the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment (CHCE), a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization for the enrichment of life after 50 for residents of northwest Philadelphia and eastern Montgomery County. CHCE offers classes, activities and resources to promote wellness, community integration, lifelong learning and independent living for adults “50 and better”.
CHCE offers a wide range of classes which meet weekly, special events which change each month, day trips, member-led groups and monthly community luncheons.
Instructor-led Classes pair thoroughly experienced mentors with beginner, intermediate and advanced members in a variety of subjects such as foreign languages, mixed media workshops, art appreciation and hands-on crafts like sculpture. These classes usually meet on weekdays at CHCE or at the Center on the Hill, 8855 Germantown Avenue when larger space is needed. Courses are modestly priced.
Special Daytime Programs include a once-per-month community luncheon on the 4th Tuesday for $7 and many free presentations like “Getting Your Affairs in Order” or “Learning to Embrace Change.”
Evening Workshops are comprised of varied subjects from “Artists of the Barnes Collection” to “Musical Roots and Branches” and are presented by professional art historians, musicians of note and others.
The CHCE is open 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday and is located at 8431 Germantown Avenue between Gravers Lane and Highland Avenue. Call them at 215-248-0180 or visit them online at chestnuthillenrichment.org. E-mail them at email@example.com. The tea kettle is always on, and there is cold spring water if you prefer.
CHCE Assistant Director Stacia Friedman explained that with the help of the Chestnut Hill Community Fund grant of $14,000 last year over 200 members of the Center including over 40% who live in Chestnut Hill directly benefitted from being able to take advantage of meals, comradeship and life-enhancing skills they would otherwise not have received. When, as a community, we help our own to remain vital among us, we strengthen our own fabric of life. This is why we ask for your donation to the CHCF once each year.
To help the Chestnut Hill Community Fund continue to support the Center for Enrichment and 30+ more deserving non-profits in Northwest Philadelphia make a donation today to CHCF at 8434 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118, go online and donate at chestnuthill.org or contact Noreen at 215-248-8810.
