The Chestnut Hill Community Fund and Woodmere Art Museum share a common bond of enriching the lives of Northwest Philadelphia residents by providing rich cultural experiences.

The Woodmere Art Museum tells the story of Philadelphia’s art and artists through a broad range of exhibitions, music events, movies, classes, lectures and programs. Housed in a 19th-century stone Victorian mansion on six acres at 9201 Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill, the museum first opened its doors to the public in 1940. The building, grounds and the nucleus of the permanent collection are the generous gifts of Charles Knox Smith, a native Philadelphian.

The Chestnut Hill Community Fund provided $2,500 in grant funding to support Woodmere’s 72nd Annual (2013/2014) Juried Exhibition open to artists living in the Chestnut Hill area and beyond. Jurors for this exhibit are artists/educators from the Tyler School of Art of Temple University, who are supplementing the exhibition with their works and others selected from the collection at Woodmere. (For information, contact the museum at 215-247-2387.)

Woodmere’s partnership with the Community Fund benefits both groups. Chestnut Hill and its neighboring communities benefit year-round from Woodmere, which draws people to our neighborhood and helps strengthen our businesses and institutions. The museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contributes to the architectural integrity of the Chestnut Hill Historic District.

The CHCF wants to continue funding this very important institution in Chestnut Hill.
