Harriet Vaughan Prichett died peacefully on January 24th, 2014 at Foulkeways, Gwynedd, PA, from complications following heart surgery. Née Harriet French Vaughan, on Christmas Day, 1924, at Ft. Sill, OK, daughter of Brig. Gen. William W. Vaughan and Frances French Vaughan, of Bridgehampton, NY, sister of George Tully Vaughan, she spent her early life as an “Army brat”, at Ft. Sill, Denver, CO, Honolulu, HI (where she learned the hula), Charleston, SC and Valley Forge, PA. ”Frenchie” graduated in 1943 from the Madeira School. An accomplished horsewoman, she taught blinded servicemen to ride during WWII. In 1948, she married Wilson Prichett, Jr., who died in 2011. During their 63-year marriage they lived in Mclean, VA, Bryn Mawr, Blue Bell, Ambler, London, UK and finally at Foulkeways. Together they led an active life of family and pets, good friends, travel and sports. They loved to scour local barn sales for antiques with which they furnished old farmhouses that they, themselves, had renovated and landscaped, turning them into homes of beauty and warmth. “Frenchie” worked for 15 years as a sales associate for Emlen & Co. realtors, and was an active volunteer at St. Christopher’s Hospital, St. Thomas’s Church, The Highlands Historical Society and “Monkey Business” (Chestnut Hill Hospital’s thrift shop.) She was a long-standing member of the Penllyn Club and “The Weeders” garden club. Her spirit of love for her family and devotion to her wide circle of friends will be deeply missed. She is survived by her children, Wilson Prichett III, of Knoxville, TN, Frances Prichett Kamen of San Diego, CA, Vaughan Prichett of Richmond, VA and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas’s Church, Ft. Washington, on Saturday March 15th at 11:00am, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas’s Church or The Highlands Historical Society.
