Beverly Shaffer Gast will be the guest author on Thursday evening, April 10, as the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment presents another in its Literary Salon series. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Bombay Room at the Chestnut Hill Hotel, 8229 Germantown Ave. Admission donations of $5 – $10 will support all CHCE programs for older adults.
Mrs. Gast, who was educated at Wheaton College and Arcadia University and pursued a career in teaching and school administration and became executive director of both The Little School House in Flourtown and Jenkintown Day Nursery, also became a published author in 2011 with the release of “Angel in Black, a Musical Life in Letters.”
The book chronicles the extraordinary talent and perseverance of Gast’s older sister Elaine Shaffer (1925-73) who studied the violin, cello and timpani; and went on to become the world’s first female concert flutist. Beverly Gast will play a recording from one of her sister’s concerts. Copies of “Angel in Black” will be available for purchase as guests enjoy wine, sweet treats and conversation with the author. For more information and to RSVP call the Center for Enrichment at 215-248-0180.
