VFW Post 5205 will host a day of remembrance for Chestnut Hill’s war dead on Monday, May 28.
The tribute will begin with a 9 a.m. Mass at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave. Afterward, post members will visit the Hill’s war memorials, beginning with a 10:30 a.m. pilgrimage to Buckley Park at Hartwell Lane and Germantown Avenue.
Post members will then walk to the World War II memorial near the Water Tower Recreation Center on Ardleigh Street and end their tour at the recently restored World War I memorial at Germantown Avenue and Mermaid Lane.
The memorial will conclude with a buffet lunch at the VFW Post, 8217 Germantown Ave.
Those who cannot make the memorial service are encouraged to visit the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market this weekend, where VFW members will be selling Buddy Poppies to raise money for veterans in need.
