Internationally acclaimed Steinway artist Svetlana Smolina will deliver a guest performance as part of the College’s Steinway Master Artist series on Thursday. Born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, pianist Svetlana Smolina has performed with orchestras and delivered recitals worldwide. Notable solo appearances include Mariinsky Orchestra at New York Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Orchestra National de France, Odessa and Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic, Toledo Symphony, and many other ensembles.
The Steinway Master Artist Series kicked off in 2012 at Chestnut Hill College with a performance from Steinway performance artist Meral Gϋneyman, state artist of the Republic of Turkey. The College became an “All-Steinway” school in 2011. The concert is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.

We dance weekly year-round except for cancellations announced in advance in case of weather, holidays, etc. Instruction is by Bill Wadlinger, with occasional guest teachers–and occasional live music. The Teen Center located directly across from the Chestnut Hill East Train station is open every Friday night from 7:30 to 10:30 pm for 12-15 year olds. The Teen Center is now open for High School Students on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The Center is staffed by a young adult who has his/her clearances. Special Events include: Games, Movies, Drumming, Nintendo Wii, Live music and Open Mic nights. Some Fridays are just TGIF nights to hang with friends. There is free access to the Teen Center with a $25 yearly membership. All teens are admitted with a $5 guest fee charge.

5600 City Ave.Contreras was the mother of five children the day the Salvadoran Armed Forces initiated “a large-scale operation in which the civilian population was indiscriminately attacked,” according to a report by Amnesty International. The attack focused on three towns whose inhabitants fled the massacre. Contreras, her husband and their children were discovered by the military the next day forcing them to flee. They were running when Contrereas saw soldiers grab her one-year-old son Serapio Cristian and four-year-old daughter Gregoria Herminia by the hair and drag them away. She then fell while running with her infant who slipped from her arms and was also carried away by a soldier.
Along with Maura’s presentation, a locally produced documentary on the subject of the disappeared children of El Salvador, Niños de la Memoria, will be shown and producer María Teresa Rodríguez will be present for a brief discussion. While admission is free, donations are encouraged and will support the search of the missing children as well as the solidarity work of the Romero Interfaith Center in El Salvador.

The Urban Athletics classes are a 45 minute high-intensity blend of bodyweight exercises, speed and agility training, dumbbell & kettlebell training and more. Each class is lead by an instructor, taking you through your workout step-by-step, just like personal training without the added cost. This way you don’t have to worry about what you’re workout will be each day, nor do you have to question if you’re doing an exercise incorrectly. 9601 Germantown Ave.Robert Schreiter, C.PP.S. Vatican Council II professor of theology at the Catholic Theological Union will present the lecture “Formation for Leadership in Reconciliation.” The event is sponsored by the Institute for Forgiveness and Reconciliation at Chestnut Hill College.
The need for reconciliation is widely acknowledged, but how does one prepare for leadership in situations that call for reconciliation? Robert Schreiter, one of the leading figures in the study of reconciliation, will sketch out the knowledge, skills and attitudes that leaders need to undertake this arduous work. As this lecture falls during the Christian celebration of Holy Week, special attention will be given to what the narratives of this week can teach us about leadership for reconciliation.
