Teen Center

The Teen Center located directly across from the Chestnut Hill East Train station is open every Friday night from 7:30 to 10:30 pm for 12-15 year olds. The Teen Center is now open for High School Students on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The Center is staffed by a young adult who has his/her clearances. Special Events include: Games, Movies, Drumming, Nintendo Wii, Live music and Open Mic nights. Some Fridays are just TGIF nights to hang with friends. There is free access to the Teen Center with a $25 yearly membership. All teens are admitted with a $5 guest fee charge.

There will be a portion of time for a free guided tour of the Morris Arboretum on Saturday afternoon, with the emphasis being determined by the various interests of those touring. Each tour is designed specifically to highlight a particular section of the arboretum, however, there is no itinerary. It is recommended that those who are touring for the first time select the general tour of the arboretum to get an over-all idea of what the gardens have to offer. Meet at the RittenhouseTown parking lotIn this mildly strenuous hike, we’ll explore interesting sections of the less traveled lower Park. Along the way, we’ll visit Lover’s Leap and Hermit’s Cave. We’ll take in breath-taking views and see ancient boulders and gnarly, old chestnut oaks. We’ll also traverse one of the more secluded side trails in the Park.
Reservations are not necessary but are recommended so that you can informed if there are changes. Unless otherwise noted hikes use uneven trails that may be wet, slippery, or steep. Please wear sturdy, protective shoes or boots and bring water /snacks if you want them. Children over 8 are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. Walks are cancelled in the event of heavy rain or snow.
Please wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Long pants are recommended for protection against occasional poison ivy and possible ticks. Bring water and a snack if desired.

It is important to recycle electronics responsibly so that these items are not sent to third world countries where children often dismantle the toxic chemicals, endangering their health. Whatever you bring will be dismantled here in Philadelphia and reused. Weavers Way Environment Committee is sponsoring this Electronics Recycling Event. Please note the new time of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free but donations are very much appreciated. The Environment Committee uses the donations to help fund their Grant Program. Last year recipients included Chestnut Hill Garden District, Ogontz Library, Hope Garden at Stenton Family Manor and E. Mt. Airy Community Garden, among others.

This Soul Line Dancing class will teach you some of the old favorites and newer line dances of today. It is a wonderful way to get moving, lose weight, relieve stress and have loads of fun. Soul Line Dance teacher, Lorraine McClary, has been dancing since 2004 and is proficient in more than 100 dances. Middle grade novels can be one of the most magical, meaningful and memorable reads of a child’s life. Many remain timeless favorites to readers who are well into their adult years. In this crash course on the middle grade novel, we’ll look at the history of this genre, examine its trends and movements and discuss what makes a middle grade novel work. If you are currently writing in this genre, or just curious about it, this course is for you. Frankie Diane Mallis is a young adult fantasy writer and is represented by Laura Rennert. She is a professor of composition and creative writing at Arcadia University. Frankie also runs a small children’s library in Elkins Park.
