      The Teen Center located directly across from the Chestnut Hill East Train station is open every Friday night from 7:30 to 10:30 pm for 12-15 year olds. The Teen Center is now open for High School Students on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The Center is staffed by a young adult who has his/her clearances. Special Events include: Games, Movies, Drumming, Nintendo Wii, Live music and Open Mic nights. Some Fridays are just TGIF nights to hang with friends. There is free access to the Teen Center with a $25 yearly membership. All teens are admitted with a $5 guest fee charge.

      Join us for a leisurely 3K walk to help find a cure for two Erdenheim boys with a severe form of Progeria, an extremely rare and fatal disease, which makes their body age eight to 10 times faster than normal children. Each tour is designed specifically to highlight a particular section of the arboretum, however, there is no itinerary. It is recommended that those who are touring for the first time select the general tour of the arboretum to get an over-all idea of what the gardens have to offer.       Expert led Nature Walks, Poetry Readings, presentations by representatives from local watershed and environmental groups, representatives from Friends of Carpenter’s Woods, Friends of the Wissahickon, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, and others to answer questions about Woods and Watershed projects, native plants, birds, and animals, and Carpenter’s Woods history. This day of events is in conjunction with a scheduled Friends of Carpenter’s Woods Volunteer Service Day to plant trees and remove invasive plants. Part of Love Your Park Week events celebrating Philadelphia’s neighborhood parks.

      Nature walks are scheduled for both morning and afternoon. Please check the schedule on the kiosks when you enter the woods. Bring your questions, your curiosity, your energy, and enjoy the day in the woods with your neighbors. Lunch and free t-shirts provided for Service Volunteers. Tools and gloves also provided. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. Free. The Ellet Trail entrance is at the intersection of Ellet and Sherman Streets. For information go to www.focw.org.

      The Urban Athletics classes are a 45 minute high-intensity blend of bodyweight exercises, speed and agility training, dumbbell & kettlebell training and more. Each class is lead by an instructor, taking you through your workout step-by-step, just like personal training without the added cost. This way you don’t have to worry about what you’re workout will be each day, nor do you have to question if you’re doing an exercise incorrectly. There is always a coach on staff to lead you through each workout. The cost is $20.

      Meet your fitness goals and enjoy the Wissahickon at the same time. The Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) is offering another free fitness hike in Wissahickon Valley Park led by FOW Trail Ambassadors Gay Bain and Diane Garvey. With sufficient interest, FOW will offer these fitness walks on a weekly basis. Meet at Northwestern Drive and Forbidden Drive in front of The Cedars House. Make new friends or visit with neighbors as you walk at a pace set by the group. This four-mile hike (two miles out and two miles back) will take place along scenic Forbidden Drive. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Walks are cancelled in the event of heavy rain. Registration is required and always recommended so that you can be informed if there are changes.
