      Friday from 6p.m. – 10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
      The Waldorf School of Philadelphia
      7500 Germantown Ave.

Enjoy holiday shopping from creative and talented crafters and artisans from Philadelphia and the surrounding region. Dip candles, make your own jump rope, drink some hot or cold apple cider that you can press yourself. The Holiday Fair and Craft Bazaar also offers a unique experience in our children-only shopping room where children get to buy unique gifts on their own for their parents, grandparents, and others.

The Fair is, of course, more than a place to buy gifts for the holidays. It is a multi-sensory conceptual shopping environment that melds core aspects of Waldorf Education with the selection of beautiful hand-made crafts for loved ones.

Leave the kids at home and join us on Friday night for an evening when the Fair is open for FREE only to adults so that you may shop, dine, listen to music in our café and relax. On Saturday, we are delighted to have the whole family for just $5/adult (children under 14 free) when you can enjoy all of the same wonderful shopping and food, as well as partake in many hands-on, creative activities.

Join us this weekend when holiday fun mixes together with the sight and touch of natural elements and materials used in both the hands-on activities as well as the fine vended crafts and items for sale.

      Nov. 16, 17, 18
      8 p.m.
      Old Academy Players
      3544 Indian Queen Lane

Private Lives by Noel Coward will be performed November 16-18 at Old Academy Players. It is directed by Barbara Pease Weber and produced by Terri Bateman and Brenna McBride. “Extraordinary how potent cheap music is,” says Amanda, the distaff member of the tempestuous couple whose connubial misadventures spark the witty, hilarious soufflé that is Private Lives. She is wrong about this show because it contains Coward’s evergreen song “Some Day I’ll Find You.” The marital misadventure starts when a divorced couple with new spouses unknowingly book adjoining honeymoon suites. The flame between them re-ignites and they run off to Paris pursued by their ditched and chagrined mates. Banter, mayhem and riotous laughter follow. Performances are Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m. Tickets are $15. Call 215-843-1109 for reservations.

      5 p.m.

      Big Blue Marble Bookstore

      551 Carpenter Lane

Big Blue Marble will host book readings with James Arthur and Rahul Mehta. Awakening is the theme of Arthur’s fiery debut Charms against Lightning, about the “ghost world” of shadows and personae. A sense of history, politics, and place is an integrated and integral part of the whole, alive with stirring accounts of travel, intimate moments of solitude, and encounters with the ineffable. With buoyant humor and incisive, cunning prose, Rahul Mehta sets off into uncharted literary territory. The characters in Quarantine—openly gay Indian-American men—are Westernized in some ways, with cosmopolitan views on friendship and sex, while struggling to maintain relationships with their families and cultural traditions. 2012 Pew Fellow Lori Waselchuk‘s award-winning documentary project Grace Before Dying chronicles the prisoner-run hospice program at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, in Angola, LA. Waselchuk collaborated with the Angola Prison hospice volunteer quilters to create two traveling exhibits featuring photographs and quilts. Waselchuk’s moving photo essay reveals how extraordinary acts of humanity have helped transform Angola from one of the most dangerous maximum security prisons in the United States, to one of the least violent.  Coaxing extreme intimacy from a panoramic image format, the photographs chart the development of a culture of caring and compassion that challenges stereotypes of incarcerated people, and provide an unique perspective on what long-term and life sentences signify for those inside.A hardbound book “Grace Before Dying,” published by Umbrage Editions, accompanies the exhibition.
