Germantown Academy’s Singing Patriots and First High School of Krakow’s (FHSK – Poland) choir and alumni choir will combine to offer a night of beautiful choral music in English and Polish. The two well-traveled choirs will sing at GA’s Arts Center. This is the fourth meeting between the Singing Patriots, GA’s Upper School choir, and FHSK’s choirs. The first took place in Krakow, Poland in 2007. First High School of Krakow’s choir is led by award-winning conductor Ryszard Źróbek, who celebrated his 20th anniversary as conductor of Bartlomiej Nowodworski High School No. 1, the formal name of First High School of Krakow, in 2012. Free and open to the public.

The Teen Center located directly across from the Chestnut Hill East Train station is open every Friday night from 7:30 to 10:30 pm for 12-15 year olds. The Teen Center is now open for High School Students on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm. The Center is staffed by a young adult who has his/her clearances. Special Events include: Games, Movies, Drumming, Nintendo Wii, Live music and Open Mic nights. Some Fridays are just TGIF nights to hang with friends. There is free access to the Teen Center with a $25 yearly membership. All teens are admitted with a $5 guest fee charge.

11 a.m. – Hoh Daiko Drummers
The Hoh Daiko drummers are known for their artful interpretations of both traditional and original music. The beautiful drums are handcrafted by group members from wine and whiskey barrels.
12 p.m. – Zen Archery Demonstration
This archery demonstration enlightens visitors about the ancient Japanese art of archery, which was regarded as the highest discipline of the Samurai warrior. Now known as Kyudo, this exercise combines the qualities of heart and mind at the moment of the arrow’s release.
1 – 2 p.m. – Traditional Japanese Tea Demonstration
The picnic tea or Chabako is a beautiful and unique form of the Japanese Tea Ceremony. Featuring traditional costumes and designed to be done outdoors, there are four distinct presentations, one for each of the seasons.
2 – 3 p.m. – Japanese Elements Tour
A Japanese garden speaks to all the senses, providing a place for rest, repose, meditation and pleasure. Explore the many locations throughout the Arboretum where traditional Japanese elements meld into the Victorian landscape created by John Morris. The Urban Athletics classes are a 45 minute high-intensity blend of bodyweight exercises, speed and agility training, dumbbell & kettlebell training and more. Each class is lead by an instructor, taking you through your workout step-by-step, just like personal training without the added cost. This way you don’t have to worry about what you’re workout will be each day, nor do you have to question if you’re doing an exercise incorrectly. There is always a coach on staff to lead you through each workout. The cost is $20.
