Sovereign Bank robbery nets $10,000
|
|
A peaceful Saturday morning in Chestnut Hill was shattered
when, at 9:11 a.m., on Dec. 31, an unknown black male walked into Sovereign
Bank, 8623 Germantown Ave., and walked up to one of the teller’s
windows.
The male wore a tan jacket with a hood, and Timberland boots. It was reported
by Officer Hall of the 14th Police District that he had a medium complexion
with facial hair.
According to Officer Hall, the teller said that a male came to his window
and stated he wanted to open an account.
The teller told the male he would have to go to the service desk and asked
if he had two pieces of identification.
The male indicated he had one form of identification, and with one hand
in his pocket, he placed a demand note on the counter.
The teller stated the note said, “No loose notes.”
The teller began handing bundles of cash to the male who then fled eastbound
on Bethlehem Pike with approximately $10,000.
Police are continuing their investigation, Officer Hall said.
Deborah Pulver, public relations manager of Sovereign Bank, said, “We’re
very glad no one was hurt; that’s the most important consideration.
And, we’re doing everything to cooperate with the authorities.”
